Crop Pattern:

More than 70% of the population is based upon agriculture related purposes. The three harvests of the district are known by their usual names, Rabi ,Kharif and Zaid. The Kharif or rainfed crops are sown in June –July and harvested in Sept. - Oct., while Rabi are irrigated crops sown Oct. - Nov. and harvested in Feb.-March. The main crop of the Kharif is paddy and of Rabi is wheat. Other main crop are Maize , Jowar , Bajra and Arhar and other main Rabi crops are Barley ,Gram, Peas and Masoor. The largest area under individual crop is occupied by paddy.

Soil:
The whole district is divided in two parts on the natural basis, first the plain area of Ganga and their auxiliary rivers, and secondly the plateau area of Naugarh. The Naugarh area under the tahsil Chakia is plateau . The soil of this region is hard and red in colour. Some Usar land is also found. This area is comparatively less crop producing area. The soil of C.D blocks Chahniya and Dhanapur of tahsil Sakaldiha is sandy Domat and in some area clay (chikni) is also found. The black soil is found in most area of Chandauli tahsil. The level of the land in the tahsil Chandauli and Sakaldiha are comparatively low and very fertile.

For providing healthy food, growth of fish production is necessary. In the district fish farming is done in rivers of the district, beside these there are various types of large and small reservoirs, among which 5 big reservoirs “Jalasaya” with an area of 2,166 hect. are located in the C.D blocks Chakia and Naugarh where fish farming is done by the fisheries department. Through fisheries development agency, loans and grants are provided through banks and short term training programmes are conducted for fish farmers. Seven fishery co-operative societies are working with 762 members in the district. In the year 1997-98 twelve lakhs fingerlings were distributed .
Industries:
The district has a good agricultural and industrial base and a reasonably good infrastructure of various facilities. The dominating agriculture and weak industrial base together appear to leave a gap which can be effectively bridged by co-ordination approach to enrich the economy of the district.
The Chandauli district has an important place in the country for handicraft. The industries of the district has provided employment to large number of workers. About 6 percent handicraft workers of the state are found in the district. Banarasi sarees, Jari and Jardozi., ornaments, wooden toys and artistic stone material are the main articles of handicraft units.
Among the small scale and household industries, the hand woven Banarasi sarees, Dari and carpet have very important place in the district. About one lakh persons are employed in Dari and carpet industry, 2000 persons are employed in Jari and Jardozi work in 200 units while five thousand families are engaged in embroidery, bokad and wooden toy making work.
In the carpet industry, power is not used. These carpets are low priced. Jari and Jardozi work are mainly done by minority community and it is done only in Varanasi and Chandauli in the state. All this article are exported to the countries like Nepal, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia etc.
Trade and Commerce:
The carpet, Dari, Jari and Jardozi, Embroidery, bokad, wooden and stone articles, toys are exported to other parts of the country and foreign countries as well. The sand and stones are also exported to the other districts. The handicrafts items are the main trading material of the district. It is well connected by rail and road. The Mughalsarai junction, which is one of the biggest railway yard in India is located here by which the facility to go anywhere in India is available. So the products are sent to every corner of the country.
