Chandauli is situated on the bank of holy river Ganga with the spread of 1889.9 S/km and bordered with the adjacent state Bihar in east, Varanasi district in west, Ghazipur district in north-east and Mirzapur district in south. District is purely connected with every part of the country through Railways and Road-ways. It is connected well with G.T. road.
If we point out the indicators for the possible development of any industy in the district, we find heavy availability of the crops like paddy, gram, pulse, oils and forestry as the local raw materials as well as good facility of railways, roads and labouring resources are true indicators of any industry to develop. The district is solely based on agriculture and we can utilise labour-power (human resources) well establishing agriculture-based industries and may develop alongwith an industrial atmosphere to promote the small-scale industries based on chemicals, leather, plastic, handcraft-handwoven products and wood.
Chandauli owns a single industrial area 'Ramnagar Industrial Estate' that maintains an identity of Chandauli in industrial field. Beside Ramnagar Industrial Estate Chandauli feels zero in industry as it empowers the district with its area of 305.69 acre possessing approx. 100 above small industrial units producing various products. Chandauli needs proper planned management and facilities to set-up a required infrastructural input and an atmosphere to promote new industrialists for setting up small and large scale industries. Government may assure the development of industries providing suitable industrial policy, facility and co-operation/co-ordination with new industrialists interest for putting their units in this district.
In process of maintaining industrial needs of district the government of Uttar Pradesh has initiated a project of establishing a new Industrial Area of 150 acre approx. in Hesamapur and Jafarpur villages of this district adjacent to famous Ramnagar Industrial Area. Now construction work at the end of government is nearly about to complete and hopefully it must be a new ray of hope for attracting new enthusiasts to set-up some industrial units in Chandauli.
To support the agriculture sector there is a strong need to develop industrial sector, which can enhance the demands for raw materials for processing industries. The main processing industries operating in this district are:
- Handicrafts industry
- Khadi and handlooms
- Agriculture and livestock based industries
- Forest produce based
- Fibre based other than handlooms
- Chemical and allied product based
- Minerals based general engineering industry
Cottage industry, trade and services have traditionally been the other important sector contributing to the economy of the district, as has inward remittances by workers, both inland and overseas. Silk sarees weaving, electric fan manufacturing, fruit preservation, small wooden toy making etc have been traditionally undertaken. Most of these activities are in a state decline due to competition of similar products at much cheaper rates.
